Eighteen disciplines are part of the 2018 Gymnasiade competition program.
All competitions are held in the city of Marrakech, except swimming and surfing taking place in the city of Casablanca.
A combat Sport of Japanese origin, consisting of touching the opponent, while avoiding complete contact of the bodies, using strong hits carried with the edge of the hand, the elbow, the knee and the foot, in circular or direct attacks.
Karate requires and develops certain physical, mental and cognitive skills. It also requires, like many sports, the control of emotions and respect for the opponent and the rules of the game.

Archery is a sport of precision and concentration in which competitors try to shoot their arrows aiming the center of a target with their bow.
Archery is a sport that offers many benefits and strengthens the body and the mind. It is a sport of skill that requires rigor and precision and, therefore, implies a high concentration of the player.

Artistic Gymnastics allows the gymnast to develop strength, flexibility, grace and a very good coordination of movements. It is practiced on four apparatus: the jump, the uneven bars, the beam and the ground.

Athletics embodies the Olympic motto “Citius, Altius, Fortius”(faster, higher, stronger). It comprises a set of disciplines such as: running, jumping, throwing, combined track, field events and walking.
It aims at the maximum development of the athlete’s psychological and physical potentialities and the achievement of quantifiable performances in time and space.

Boxing is a combat sport practiced since the 18th century. It consists of striking with one-on-one padded gloves.

Chess is a game that opposes two players on either side of a board called chessboard composed of sixty-four light and dark colored squares named the white squares and the black squares. The players take turns moving one of their sixteen pieces in their respective spots on the chessboard. Each player has at the start 1 king; 1 queen; 2 rooks; 2 bishops; 2 knights and 8 pawns. The goal of the game is to trap the opponent in a checkmate, a situation in which the king of a player is in check (threatened with capture) and there is no way to remove the threat
It is a sport based on intellectual abilities, observation and memorization.

Cycling is an endurance discipline that combines speed and technicality. It allows the expression of the technical and physical qualities of the athlete.
The main categories of cycling are track cycling, road cycling, mountain biking and BMX.

Fencing is a sport of combat. It is the art of touching an opponent with the tip or the edge, on valuable parts without being touched.
We use three types of weapons:
The events are individual or team. They are therefore twelve in number.
Golf is a sport of precision played outdoors. It involves sending a ball into a hole with the help of clubs. The goal of the game is to make, on a defined course, the least possible shots.

Aerobics is a sports discipline combining fitness and acrobatics and demonstrating the ability to perform dynamic movement sequences with music.
It requires strength, stamina and flexibility. The gymnasts perform on music for 1min30 on a surface of 7 x 7m and 10 x 10m for Groups.

Judo,”The gentle way” was created as a physical, mental and moral pedagogy in Japan by JigorōKanō in 1882. It is generally categorized as a modern martial art, which later evolved into combat sport and an Olympic sport.

Petanque is a sport which is played face to face between two players, pairs or trios using steel balls and a wooden ball called cochonnet (literally “piglet”) or jack.

Rhythmic Gymnastics is a discipline combining flexibility, grace and skill.
It is practiced in music using some pieces of apparatus: the hoop, the ball, the clubs, and the ribbon. In competition, the Rhythmic Gymnastics can be practiced either individually or in groups of 5 gymnasts.

Surfing is a water sport that involves sliding on the waves while standing on a board. It is practiced on surfing sites. The surf material consists of a board, a combination, and various accessories.

Swimming is a sport where the athlete crosses, in a swimming pool, as fast as possible a given distance without the help of any accessory and in a style codified by the International Swimming Federation.
In a competition, swimming includes four major swimming techniques, namely: crawl, butterfly, breaststroke and backstroke.
The swimming competitions will take place at the Olympic swimming pool of Casablanca.

Taekwondo is a martial art of South Korean origin, which can be translated as “the way of the foot and fist”. This martial art is based on attack techniques where the practitioner concentrates his/her energy on “reduced impact surfaces” with which he/she targets the weak points of the opponent and blocks adverse attacks. The regulation of Taekwondo revolves around allowed hits, the counting of the points and the refereeing rules of the fights.

Tennis is a sport practiced on a court of specific dimensions, opposing, according to specific rules, two players (or two teams of two players) who, with rackets, alternately send a ball on both sides of a net placed in middle of the court splitting it in half.
Practicing Tennis allows the development of endurance, strengthens the cardiovascular system and improves the functioning of the musculoskeletal system.

Wrestling is a sport in which opponents compete in hand-to-hand combat. It is about dropping the opponent to the ground while keeping his two shoulders on the ground.
Wrestling is a combat sport composed of several Olympic disciplines: free wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, women’s wrestling.
