The Gymnasiades 17th edition is the first of its kind on the African continent, revered by being held under the prestigious Patronage of His Majesty the King Mohammed VI, may God glorify him. This edition demonstrates the privileged rank and the great confidence enjoyed by the Kingdom of Morocco, land of peace, tolerance and conviviality among the International Sports Community.
Morocco draws on a remarkable experience of organizational structuring through the success of the organization of numerous meetings and sporting events of international stature, thanks to its cultural, sporting and organizational potential.
Since its first edition in 1974 in Germany, these biannual Gymnasiades have played a leading role in the School Sport Community. This edition will be an opportunity to consolidate and develop school sport in Africa as highlighted during the First African Forum of School Sport held on January 15 and 16 2018 in Rabat. This edition will be characterized by the participation of nearly 4000 athletes between the ages of 15 and 18, representing 37 countries, with a strong African participation in particular.
The growing importance of school sport is remarkable in bringing people together, strengthening social cohesion, and standing against marginalization and exclusion.
By enhancing the sense of commitment and dedication among the participants, school sport remains an extraordinarily rich, open and exciting field for the exchange and sharing of universal values, and the promotion of peace in the world, as well as a lever for human development. It is also a tool to strengthen friendship and fraternity relations within the big family of school sports.
During the event, we will certainly be able to experience beautiful emotions, memories and moments of joy, as we will also be able to enjoy remarkable sports competitions offered by talented young people of the world.
I seize this opportunity to reiterate the commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco to support this international event, and the different events promoting school sport.
I would like also to extend my warmth thanks to the Ministry of National Education, Professional Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research, the International School Sport Federation, the Royal Moroccan Federation of School Sport, members of the Local Organizing Committee and all partners for all the efforts they undertake to make this sporting event successful.
Finally, allow me to welcome once more all participants in these Gymnasiades most warmly, and to wish them good luck, and also wish this great sporting event a Full Success.
